Objectives of Organisation

Thames Concerts Society exists to provide accessible, world-class, professional, orchestral classical music for the residents of Kingston upon Thames and the surrounding area. Our aim is to engender a love of classical music in as wide an audience as possible and to support musical education and the musical curriculum in schools via our programme of music.

 

Main Activities of Organisation

 

Thames Concerts Society arranges and presents a series of seven classical music concerts between September and April each year, played by professional orchestras, groups and soloists. The concerts are held predominantly at Kingston Parish Church because of its superb acoustics and central position in Kingston upon Thames.

 

Job Summary

To be responsible for the day to day management of the Society’s affairs.

 

Job Description

Principal tasks:

 

  • To check availability of the church for concerts and make the appropriate bookings;
  • To help prepare and then arrange printing and bulk mailing of the season's brochure and monthly newsletters to members;
  • To prepare and distribute posters and flyers for the concerts;
  • To submit listings for the concerts to national and local press, radio and on-line services;
  • To send out press-releases on the concerts to the local press;
  • To provide content to keep the Society's website up to date;
  • To prepare and arrange printing of each of the concert programmes;
  • On the day of the concert:

To prepare the church for the concert, run the rehearsals, including providing refreshments for the orchestra;

To organise the stewards, other helpers and first-aid cover at the concert;

To manage clear-up and restoration of the church afterwards;

  • To call the AGM and record the minutes;
  • To help prepare and submit council grant applications and grant monitoring forms;
  • To help in the search for sponsors and advertisers.

 

Job Location and Time Commitment

Volunteer will work from home. Time commitment is flexible although needs to fit in with the timing of the concert series and press deadlines - equivalent to about 2 part-days or evenings per week plus concert days.
